Indeed the east coast of the island is much more quaint and relaxed, but some interesting spots to visit are the ‘Soup Bowl’, a legendary surf spot at Bathsheba (and you don’t need to be a surfer to appreciate its beauty), Andromeda Botanic Gardens (Barbados’ oldest and largest gardens) and the Coco Hill Forest, a 53-acre agrotourism project with over 70 species of tropical fruit trees, herbs and spices. Another interesting spot is the PEG Farm and Nature Reserve which uses biodynamic management practices to restore soil damaged by centuries of sugarcane production. They have a farm shop, garden-to-table café and educational tours. Bridgetown, the capital, isn’t too far away and worth a visit, and a classic destination is Oistins for their iconic Friday Fish Fry
